I find them really visually appealing. And I’ve always wondered why they were stamped that way. Did they make whole sets like that, or are they just a fluke deal or error?
I have everything you just showed me and even more. I started to tear down barns all by myself about 5 years ago. My wife and I just bought a house a few months ago and I just realized I can be considered a tool hoarder but not that knowledgeable about much. I use the alloy artifacts for most info, but that's all I know. I challenge you to try and think of any socket I don't have. Haha.
That's a pre-Waterloo era Craftsman box. I believe AMD (Advertising Metal Display) made that for Sears. Look carefully inside the drawer with the logo. Sometimes it's reverse stamped in there. AMD was located in Chicago. Rustoleum hammer type gray paint should be fairly close. I cleaned up a 1960 Craftsman box in similar condition. It's worth it, and you'll get it done. Go easy on that logo and you can save it. You can easily and should restore that toolbox, even if you just clean it up. A tote tray from any hand box will work and be "close enough". The Waterloo tote trays probably wouldn't fit and they fetch a good buck on Ebay. I have some in my rollaways. I scored a 1980 top chest off Ebay a few years back for $25 and it came with an original key and the tote tray. But this past summer, I scored a 1969 Craftsman ten drawer top box with two original keys, owner's manual/paperwork AND it was filled with USA tools. The price? $45 and I got lucky---a friend picked it up for me as he lived close by to the seller and brought it to work and I got it from him then.
While going through some double boxed end Craftsman wrenches, I realized they lacked forge marks, and the double lines are slightly askew. I then found this video, and the wrenches you mentioned without the forge marks. Any idea why they are like this? and why the double lines on the ends of the logo are offset ?
I have been collecting these tools for 50 plus years, There are tons of them on Craigslist and garage sales.

I mark tools at work as we sometimes work together or close by, much easier at pick up time. I engrave a number, coworkers use initials etc.
Had to wipe a tear out m eye,seeing ths makes me cry,we had a wild fire here in my home town in the fall of 2020 and we lost the big shop and we had some of the good older tools and you go to buy a new and they are absilutely inferior to these pre 1980 American Tools. Thanks for GREAT VIDEO.
