Just cleaned the inside of my 12 year old Sony KP-53HS10, and the results are STUNNING! I bought this reliable RP HDTV way back in May 2001, and lately, the image has been a bit dull. I did some online research, and popped the lower back cover off, carefully vacuumed most of the circuit board and heat sink dust up, and cleaned the 3 very dusty lenses using Bausch & Lomb 'Sight Savers', which is an isopropyl alcohol based pre-moistened lens cleaning tissue. The TV is 'like-new' again!
I didn't clean the mirror or the screen on mine (as I didn't have enough space to remove the entire back cover), but I simply removed the wooden panel on the bottom and wiped the three lenses with glass cleaner. The TV is now just as clear as my new XBR series 4k Sony TV, I am not even kidding. I have a similar model, the KP-52HS10. Great video!
Thanks for this insight video, i removed the dust from the three lamps/lenses and the image quality improved so much. Now i only need to know how to readjust the sharpness. Image still seems to be a bit unsharp..

NEVER DRAG YOUR FINGER ACROSS THE LENS! You could hear the grit scratching the lens....

I have a rear projector and the picture is "dull"......the lamp was replaced 1200 hours ago and I've been told you should get 3000 hours approx. How many lamp hours should you get out of one lamp? Anyone know.
